Condition

Nasolabial Folds (Nose to Mouth)

As we age our facial shape changes. This is more apparent when we look at younger pictures of ourselves. Generally speaking in youth we have a fuller triangular face and with age we loose volume (deflation) and our face shape becomes an inverted triangle.

One of the reasons we develop this inverted triangle is because of loss of bony support in the cheek as well as the jaw bone. This is in combination to loss of facial fat and also a loss of collagen and elastin in the skin which reduces its elasticity.

These elements cause more heaviness in the lower cheek, jaw line and a saggy appearance. The line that forms between the side of the nose and the mouth is called the nasolabial fold.

Treatment for nasolabial folds range from non-surgical face lifting by replacing volume using MD codes and Juvederm dermal fillers to formal surgical treatment involves face lifting techniques.
